Our general and preventive dentistry treatments focus on preventing dental issues — cavities, gum disease, and so on — and preserving your oral health. Our goal is focus on improving your immediate and long-term oral health through regular cleanings and checkups.

Our general dentistry services include:

We recommend scheduling a dental cleaning at least twice a year to help maintain your dental and oral health. Our registered dental hygienists will remove plaque and tartar deposits in order to prevent cavities. We will also check for any signs of periodontal disease, oral cancer or any other abnormalities and finish off by polishing and flossing your teeth.

Drs. Doug & Cathy Smith are proud to use KaVo DIAGNOdent, dentistry’s most accurate aid for detecting cavities. The device features a small laser that detects decay in pits and grooves on teeth. This early detection results in smaller fillings and helps preserve your natural tooth structure. It is a simple, fast and painless way to maintain strong and healthy teeth.

We understand that many patients may feel uneasy about dental x-rays due to radiation exposure. Our practice has the most up-to-date x-ray equipment that exposes you to the least amount of radiation possible. X-rays allow us to detect hidden decay, determine the condition of current fillings, crowns and bridges, monitor wisdom teeth and so much more.

Root canals are needed when a tooth becomes diseased or inflamed. The procedure repairs and saves teeth that are badly damaged from a large cavity or major trauma. First, the infected pulp is removed and the tooth’s interior is cleaned and disinfected. The tooth is then sealed with a rubber-like material and restored with a crown or filling to prevent future infections.

Dental sealants are thin, plastic coatings that are painted on the surface of your teeth. They are most commonly painted on your back teeth (molars) to help prevent tooth decay. Sealants quickly bond to the grooves of your teeth and act as a protective barrier over the enamel.

Our team is able to provide care for all members of the family, from children to seniors. We understand the unique dental concerns of each age group and are able to address those concerns, so our patients can achieve healthy smiles!

We offer a wide range of pediatric dental services for children. Children might feel hesitant about going to the dentist, but we do all we can to make every experience in our office a fun one! Parents are encouraged to bring their child in for their first appointment by their first birthday. By this point the first baby teeth have erupted. From there, we provide regular checkups and cleanings to ensure your child is building the foundation for a healthy adult smile! From fluoride treatments and sealants to digital x-rays and fillings, we provide comprehensive dental care for all children.

Fillings restore form and function to teeth after decay is removed. Tooth-colored composite resin is the most common filling material used. It is a safe restorative material that will help you maintain a healthy mouth.

Nitrous oxide is a gas you can breathe in to help you eliminate dental anxiety and feel more comfortable. It has no color or smell and is a very safe sedation. Our staff is trained to administer nitrous oxide if you believe it’s an appropriate measure to take in order to feel more at ease.

Oral cancers often go unnoticed because there is limited pain and physical evidence during the early stages. We will perform a thorough examination to identify any signs of oral cancer and determine the best solution to eliminate it. Oral cancer does not just affect tobacco users so everyone needs to be checked on a regular basis for any signs of the disease.

Yes we take all insurance, however, some insurance pays more than others. If we are not “in network” with your insurance provider there will be a bigger cost out of pocket for you and a smaller benefit from your insurance company will be paid. Currently we are a Delta Dental Premier dentist, Blue Cross Blue Shield of TN, Total Cigna DPPO, and Cigna DPPO Provider. If you have questions as to whether we are in network with a specific plan please feel free to call us at(865) 579-3368 as this can be very confusing and we would love to help you find out your benefit level.

At your first visit you will be provided with a very thorough comprehensive examination. We will take any x-rays that are due, do a complete periodontal probing to check gum health, oral cancer screening, and chart existing as well as current work that needs to be completed. We will present you with a complete breakdown of treatment that may need to be completed so you leave our office with no questions in regards to treatment. Our competent and friendly office staff will make you feel confident on the costs of treatment, coverage of insurance, and come up with a financial plan that works best for your situation.

Regular cleaning appointments are necessary to maintain the health of your mouth. It is recommended that a cleaning and evaluation should be done at least 2 times per year, however, cleanings can be regular at every 3-4 months depending on your mouth. Healthy mouths can prevent an array of serious health complications that could result in losing all of your teeth. Our highly trained Hygienist will review your teeth during the cleaning process and notate any problem areas that may arise and alert the dentist. The dentist will take a closer look and treat any issues before they become more serious.

The answer to that question is an emphatic yes! There is no substitution for flossing your teeth. When something gets stuck it is mainly between your teeth that this happens. This is where the majority of plaque builds up, which causes tartar to form, which will in turn cause tooth decay and tooth discoloration. Not flossing can lead to unnecessary damage to your teeth and is the leading cause of cavities.
